The main alloy elements of 7xxx aircraft aluminum are zinc, magnesium and copper. It is generally divided into Al-Zn-Mg and Al-Zn-Mg-Cu, which is respectively easily weldable and not easily weldable. Both are heat-treated aluminum alloys. Zinc and magnesium will be combined for strengthening.

Al-Zn-Mg Alloy
7xxx Al-Zn-Mg aluminum alloy has good weldability and are used in products with high appearance requirements, as well as products with high strength and fracture toughness requirements like 3C products, motorcycle/bicycle frame and automobile and motorcycle related parts production, baseball and softball bat production.
The 7xxx aluminum properties enable these products have better environmental resistance and pressure resistance. The typical grades are 7003, 7005 and 7046.
Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloy
This alloy is also known as ultra-dura aluminum, whihc has poor weldability and can meet high-strength and high fatigue resistance requirements. The typical grades are 7001, 7050, 7075, 7068 aluminum sheet. They are used for bicycle front Fork, baseball/softball bat, aerospace industry, automobile, motorcycle/bicycle related parts,etc.
7068 alloy is a 7000 series aluminium-zinc alloy registered with the US Aluminium Association and produced to AMS 4331 (chemical composition and mechanical properties) and AMS 2772 (heat treatment). Lets’ have a look of aluminum 7068 properties.
