Aluminum alloys have been the main structural material for commercial and military aircraft for nearly 80 years due to their outstanding mechanical properties, easy design, mature manufacturing processes and testing technologies, and will continue to be the main material for some time to come.
Modern aircraft structures rely heavily on aluminum alloys, which are also used in aircraft frames, skins and load-bearing parts. 7075 aluminum plate has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and is very suitable for key components such as helicopter rotor blades, engine brackets and other structural elements of aircraft.
7075 heat treatment brings different aluminum sheet properties. 7075-T651 alloy is known as the best product in aluminum alloy, with high strength and far superior to any soft steel. This alloy has good mechanical properties and anodic reaction.
In the T73 and T76 states, the alloy's stress corrosion resistance can be greatly improved, among which the T73 state has the highest stress corrosion resistance. The T76 state not only has high strength, but also has high stress corrosion resistance, and its exfoliation corrosion resistance is also very good.
The forming performance of 7075-O alloy is not as good as that of 2024-O alloy, but it has good forming performance at 180℃-3 70℃ and the holding time in this temperature range should be greater than ≥2h. The forming performance of 7075-W alloy is equivalent to that of 2024-W alloy. At room temperature, the parking time after quenching is less than 30min. It has the best formability, and this good formability can be maintained for 4h.
In the 1960s, the United States improved the 7075 aluminum alloy and developed the stronger, tougher and more stress-corrosion-resistant 7050 alloy, which was mainly used in the compression-resistant structural parts of the F-18. Subsequently, the 7150 alloy was developed for the manufacture of the upper wing structures of large civil aircraft such as the Boeing 757/767 and Airbus A301.
In the 1980s, the United States and other countries successfully developed the 7055 alloy based on the 7150 alloy, which is about 10% stronger than the 7150 alloy and has higher comprehensive performance. It is used for the upper wing skin and wing stringers of the Boeing 777 passenger aircraft.
