7075 Thick Aluminum Sheet for Airplanes

Different from the aluminum sheets used in other industries, the main characteristics of the aluminum plates required for large aircraft projects are "extra long, ultra wide, and ultra thick." Especially the fuselage of large aircraft requires aluminum plates nearly 20 meters long. The thick aluminum sheet mus also reach 200mm.

Among the commonly used alloys, one is 7075-T7651 aluminum alloy thick plate, which has high strength, good toughness, stress resistance and spalling corrosion resistance. It belongs to the aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper superhard aluminum alloy. The second is 7055 superhard aluminum alloy, which is currently the strongest alloy among deformed aluminum alloys. The strength of 7075-T77 alloy sheet is 30% higher than that of 7075.

Zn is the main alloy element in 7075. Adding magnesium to an alloy containing 3%-7.5% zinc can form MgZn2 with significant strengthening effect, making the heat treatment effect of this alloy far better than that of Al-Zn binary alloy. Increasing the zinc and magnesium content in the alloy will further increase the tensile strength, but its ability to resist stress corrosion and spalling corrosion will decrease. After heat treatment, it can achieve very high strength properties. 7075 aluminum generally add a small amount of copper, chromium and other alloys.

7075 alloy has good machinability in the annealed state, with little or no warping during age hardening. It has good corrosion resistance and is further improved through heat treatment and aging. The alloy resists stress corrosion cracking in the 7075-T73 temper. Al-7075 can be resistance welded, but fusion welding is generally not recommended.

It comes in a variety of heat treatment states: T6, T73, T76, T77. 7075-T6 aluminum has the highest mechanical strength properties, but have low fracture toughness and is sensitive to stress corrosion, and its toughness decreases as the temperature decreases. Therefore, 7075-T6 is not suitable for manufacturing low-temperature structural parts and workpieces. 7075-T73 has the lowest strength , but has quite high fracture toughness, good resistance to stress cracking and resistance to spalling corrosion; the strength of T76 material is higher than that of T73 material, and its resistance to stress corrosion cracking is higher than that of 7075-T6.

All ultra-large and ultra-thick 7075 metal plates have been ultrasonic tested to ensure there are no blisters or impurities. 7075 aluminum plate has high thermal conductivity, which can shorten molding time and improve work efficiency.
