The 2524-T3 alloy was used on the F-35 fighter that was developed in 1995 and first flew in 2000. 2524 aluminum alloy is a high-purity aluminum alloy. Its Fe and Si impurity content is significantly reduced compared to 2024, the Cr content is also significantly reduced, the Cu content range is reduced.
Its Mg and Mn content has been adjusted to ensure the strength and other properties equivalent to those of 2024 T3 aluminum while its fatigue strength is increased by 10%, the fracture toughness is increased by 20%, and the fatigue crack growth rate of the material is specified in the AMS standard for the first time, making the alloy a real damage tolerance alloy.
