What Are 6061 6063 T6 Properties

6000 series aluminum alloy is a type of aluminum alloy composed of elements such as aluminum, magnesium and silicon. It includes common models such as 6061 and 6063, which are often used in aerospace, shipbuilding, automobiles, construction, electronics and other fields.

6xxx series aluminum alloys for aviation have successively developed 6061, 6063, 6013, 6056 and other alloys, which are used for aircraft protection panels, skins, flanges and other parts. 6063 is widely used in the development of aircraft-related structures, such as fuselages and wings.

6063 aluminum alloy is an aluminum alloy with extremely strong comprehensive properties, which is widely used in industries such as industry and construction. The plasticity of 6063 aluminum is better than that of 6061, so most extruded profiles use 6063 grades. However, the strength and processing performance of 6063 are not as good as 6061 aluminum.

6063-t6 means that its grade is 6063 alloy, and the annealing process is T6 state. What are the 6063 t6 properties? Generally, the yield strength value of T6 state treatment is: 210MPa, and the hardness of 6063-t6 is 73HB.

A notable feature of 6061 aluminum is its heat treatability. Heat treating 6061 can significantly improve its mechanical properties, especially hardness. The process involves heating the alloy to a specific temperature, holding it at that temperature for a certain period of time, and then rapidly cooling it. Heat-treated 6061 t6 aluminum is one of the most common forms of this alloy, with a higher strength level.

6061 aluminum plate is the earliest 6XXX series aluminum alloy used in aviation. It has good corrosion resistance and excellent welding performance, but its strength is medium to low. In the past, domestic aircraft system ducts mostly used LF2-M and LF21-M materials, while foreign countries mostly used 6061-T4 and 6061 T6 aluminum alloys.

6061 aircraft aluminum has better general properties than 7075, with higher corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability. But it does not have the high strength that 7075 aluminum has. Where strength is a more important consideration, 7075 is a better choice.
