What Are 7000 Series Aluminum Alloys

The yield strength of 7000 series aluminum alloys is usually between 300-500MPa, which can effectively resist deformation caused by external load. The strength of 7 series aluminum alloy is much better than that of low carbon steel. 7 series aluminum alloy has excellent mechanical properties, including high strength, hardness and good plasticity.

7075, a representative of the 7000 series aluminum alloy, is a typical aviation super-hard aluminum, belonging to the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu series.7075 aluminum is one of the most commonly used aluminum alloys with the highest strength. Fine grains make it own good deep drilling performance and wear resistance. Anodizing 7075 is harder.

Aluminum alloy thick plate is an important structural material in the modern aerospace industry. One of them is 7075-T7651 aluminum alloy thick plate, which has high strength, good toughness, stress resistance and exfoliation corrosion resistance. It belongs to the aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper super-hard aluminum alloy, which is widely used in aircraft frames, integral wall panels, landing gear, skins, etc.

After more than 70 years of development, 7075 alloy has formed a fairly large family. The commonly used alloys are 7075/7175/7475 alloys. 7475 (aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper) aluminum alloy is an improved version of 7075 alloy.

7475 alloy is developed for applications requiring higher strength, fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth resistance in air and corrosive environments. By reducing the content of iron and silicon in the alloy and changing the quenching and aging conditions, the strength and fracture toughness of 7075 alloy are improved.

7068 aluminum plate is a new high-performance aluminum alloy developed by Kaiser Aluminum Company in the United States. Its typical yield strength reaches 700MPa, which is 15%~20% higher than that of 7075 alloy. Its high temperature performance is better than that of 7075, and its corrosion resistance is equivalent to that of 7075 alloy, with good comprehensive performance.

In the 1960s, the United States improved the 7075 aluminum alloy and developed the 7050 alloy, which is stronger, tougher and more resistant to stress corrosion. 7050 aluminum alloy is mainly used to manufacture aircraft structures and other high-stress structural parts that require high strength and corrosion resistance, such as upper and lower wing panels, stringers, etc. After solution treatment, it has good plasticity and good heat treatment strengthening effect. It has good strength below 150degrees Celsius and has particularly good low-temperature strength.
